Recounting the chaotic events that occurred in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, Parkland weaves together the perspectives of a handful of ordinary individuals suddenly thrust into extraordinary circumstances: the young doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital; Dallas' chief of the Secret Service; an unwitting cameraman who captured what became the most watched and examined film in history; the FBI agents who nearly had the gunman within their grasp; the brother of Lee Harvey Oswald, left to deal with his shattered family; and JFK's security team, witnesses to both the president's death and Vice President Lyndon Johnson's rise to power over a nation whose innocence was forever altered.
Review :
Total movie: 90/100 Acting: 80/100 Effects: 80/100 Book Changes: 80/100 Awesome Level: 100/100
The movie was a bit disappointing. It was more of a documentary I thought. I have been a student of this event since I was a kid and I did not learn anything more than I already knew. Even though the movie told the story of the ordinary folk, I knew the rest of the story and I did not feel the human drama and I did not make a connection to any of the characters nor did I feel any emotion. Towards the end, it told the story of the Oswald family and Abraham Zapruder (the man that made the famous 16mm home movie of the assassination). Billy Bob Thornton needed a bigger role in the movie. Paul Giamatti was good as Zapruder. I am glad I saw it, someone that is not interested in the JFK assassination story will not enjoy it or will be bored with it. I am glad I saw this one alone. But I'll buy it on Blu-Ray when it comes out to add to my collection. I think that this movie could have been so much more, especially with Tom Hanks behind it and with the story at hand. More intricate details could have been inserted and there could have been more drama and the viewer could have been sucked into the story more. I did not feel as if I was there.
